This journal is designed to empower you to self-manage, self-regulate, and self-mentor by offering a guided and systematic approach to self-exploration, time and energy management, intention setting and reflective practice and learning in sports coaching.
Leading oneself is the starting point to leading others.
The journal is broken into the following sections:
Section 1:
This section challenges you to complete your ‘This is Me’ guide. This is a critical part of the journal as performance in coaching both begins and ends with assessing one’s understanding of self, and being clear on who you are, who you want to be, how you want to treat people, and how you want to live, prepare and coach.
You will be prompted to revisit your ‘This is Me’ guide throughout the journal and challenged to redraft it in full at the midpoint and end of the journal.
Section 2:
To start your week, you will find the My Weekly Plan, which is a space for you to set your priorities, and gather your thoughts and intentions for the week ahead.
To end your week, you will be challenged to reflect on your learnings and gain insights from these learnings using the My Weekly Reflection.
Free space is also provided for you to journal your thoughts and reflections.
Section 3:
You will use this section before and after each session (i.e. training & competition.)
Pre-Session Intention Setting:
This space is designed to help you gather your thoughts, sharpen your focus and ground yourself, before you go out on the field for training or competition. This simple exercise will give you greater clarity on what is important for your coaching in the session to come.
Post-Session Reflection & Learning:
This space will provide you with a reflective practice tool to harvest and embed your learnings from training or competition. Spending a few minutes after each session reflecting will provide a platform for consistent growth and self-development.
The Appendix provides tools and space for goal-setting, tracking and note taking. These can be used throughout the journaling process as you please.
